Classification of Drugs and Alcohol

Street Names:
Unknown.

Description:
Found in powders, tablets or capsules.  Common dose is 300 to 500 mg., usually taken orally.  Of samples analyzed at drug testing labs, nearly 90% turn out to be PCP, LSD, or some other substance.

Origin and Medical Uses:
Derived from dried buttons of peyote cactus, or synthesized.  No commonly accepted medical use.

Short Term Effects:
Effects appear slowly and last 10 to 18 hours.  Changes in perception and mood, disorientation, impaired short term memory and concentration.  Pupils dilate.  Fever, nausea, and vomiting occur. High doses can cause headache, dry skin, low blood pressure and slowing of heart rate and breathing.

Long Term Effects:
Insufficient research.

Tolerance and Dependence:
Tolerance
develops quickly.  After using mescaline or psilocybin, the user must abstain from both for several days to regain sensitivity.  Cross tolerance develops to LSD and DMT.  Chronic users may become psychologically dependent.  Mescaline and psilocybin are not known to cause physical dependence.
